Before leaving Montalcino, the host of the spring edition of L’Eroica, it’s almost obligatory to stop at the Giardini dell’Impero to admire the breathtaking views over Val d’Orcia. Adjacent to this stunning viewpoint, you can visit the striking medieval fortress and walk along the tower pathways. The pentagonal fortress, built in 1361 at the highest point of the city, often hosts internationally renowned events! Be sure to enjoy a glass of Brunello or Rosso di Montalcino before descending from the village: to the north, the Crete Senesi, the Montalcino hillside covered with vast vineyards, and Siena; to the south, the beautiful lands of Val d’Orcia; to the east, the unforgettable Crete Senesi extending to the Apennines and Val di Chiana; and to the west, the treasures of the Mediterranean scrub reaching the Tyrrhenian Coast. The descent from Montalcino will be a delightful plunge through the vineyards.
