The route continues along the Arbia River with views of the vineyards. In the heart of Chianti, perched on a hill that divides the Pesa and Arbia valleys, lies Radda in Chianti, a village whose current name dates back to 1911. Surrounded by ancient walls, picturesque squares, and fairy-tale views of the surrounding countryside, the village was completely destroyed at the end of the 1400s. Wandering through the cobbled streets and following the medieval paths around the town feels like a journey back in time. The first settlements date back to 2000 BC, as archaeological excavations have revealed human presence from that period, along with artifacts from the fall of the Roman Empire and an Etruscan fortification. The atmosphere here is unique: this village, recognized as the headquarters of the Chianti League long before it began trading wine, holds within its walls the imposing and evocative Palazzo Podestà.
