Once under the control of Buonconvento, Monteroni became its own municipality in 1810 during the Napoleonic era and takes its name from one of the hills which dominates the town, called Monte Roni, and from the Arbia river, mentioned by Dante in his Inferno epic poem.
If you visit the town, you can enjoy the wonderful views over the unique landscape dotted with cottages and farmhouses.
If you love art, Monteroni and the surrounding countryside is the place for you with attractions such as the church of Santi Jacopo e Cristoforo or the Romantic-style parish church in Corsano.
