Riding along the famous ‘strade bianche’ into the heart of southern Tuscany, you reach a beautiful hill, atop which stands Montalcino.
The ancient village lies within the protected UNESCO World Heritage site of the Val d’Orcia and every year hosts the summer edition of the Eroica when it is the setting for the Festival, illuminated by lanterns made from old-fashioned cycling jerseys and featuring music, dancing, costumes and old-time bikes, from the heroic, community days of the sport.
Montalcino can also boast outstanding culture, art and cuisine: here you can enjoy a break surrounded by the stunning countryside and a glass of Brunello, the best-known Italian wine in the world, before resuming your ride having given both your stomach and your eyes a treat.
