A short stretch marks the junction between the two permanent routes: L’Eroica continues towards Buonconvento, while Eroica Montalcino dives into the enchanting landscapes of Val d’Orcia. Cycling through the Val d’Orcia is a feast for the eyes and a balm for the weary mind. The medieval village of San Quirico d’Orcia sits atop a gentle hill, above the remains of the ancient village of Osanna. In the Middle Ages, it was a key stop along the Via Francigena, where pilgrims traveling to the Eternal City could find refuge and assistance. The village still retains its original medieval structure and is surrounded by a characteristic wall. Don’t miss a visit to the Horti Leonini, beautiful Italian gardens accessible from the central Piazza della Libertà and to the right of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
